Does it get any better than this Elliott?

Football.

Seems to be the only subject I write about lately. I sprinkle some cheer notes in for spice.  Children and sports have consumed our late summer and early fall life.  I like it.  They enjoy it.

And yet, I still have a home to maintain.  So I have to manage that on week nights or the weekends, when I can.  Yesterday, I was busy in the kitchen and I was happy! I made an apple dessert. Like a dessert pizza but with regular pie crust, not the sweet cookie crust.  It made the house smell – well, fall-like and delicious.  I wanted to have a fire but I was told it is too early for fires. You know what I think about that: uuumph! Next time I’ll just start one and not suggest one. After the apple recipe – which you need to serve warm with ice cream and then drizzle with caramel - now that is a dessert!  I made a loaf of triple cheese bread, roasted a chicken and a huge pan of vegetables and whipped up some gravy to please the Big Guy.  Let’s say, dinner was tasty.  The bread is delicious.  We had leftover bread because Elliott wasn’t home.

He spent the night at a friends’ house. They got up early and headed to Buffalo.  He attended his FIRST NFL game!  He was so excited. The Bills hosted the New England Patriots (Elliott’s second favorite team)!  I packed all sorts of coats, rain jackets, hats – I wanted him to stay warm.  It did not rain. They had a good day.  We had two calls that afternoon. The first one I ended because I could not hear anyone.  Minutes later, the phone rang again and I said “I cannot hear you” after two hellos. I heard Elliott say MOM.  Smile.  He proceeded to tell me it was half-time and he was having a great time.  Bye.  No more worrying about him. Did I tell you I was worrying all day and praying?  I was.

I picked Elliott up around 8:30 p.m.  He had his bag and a new hat – NE Patriots hat!  I said good-bye to the families he went with.  When I went to get in the car, all I saw was my Elliott in the back seat smiling, ear to ear.  He was so happy.  He was tired; no exhausted. The days’ excitement was flowing out of him.  He beamed.  He was also overwhelmed.  He didn’t know where to start telling me about this great adventure.  I know he was tired but the excitement he was feeling needed to be released.  I asked him questions and he talked and talked. Once home, he talked for about 20 minutes before he would stop long enough to brush his teeth and get ready for bed.  Once tucked in, he started talking again.  He said he has plenty to write about now in school for their daily writing workshop time.  His subject will still be football but on a grander scale.

I was thankful he could sleep in longer this morning.  John had the day off to go hunting.  Today is the opening day of game bird hunting.  Ruddie did well as I had a call a while ago that they have a woodcock.  Ruddie was excited about this as he did not want to give the bird up to John.  I think he’s ready for his Maine hunting trip.  I only hope Elliott will be rested and ready to suit up for practice tonight!

I’ll be ready for my night as I have my to-do list created.  Life is good and we are living it!
